biography

Gerhard Königsrainer drove his first international race on February 21, 1986 at the age of seventeen at the 5th Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in Bad Kleinkirchheim in Carinthia and achieved 10th place in the giant slalom . After a long break, the South Tyrolean became the Italian giant slalom champion in 1993 . On March 23, 1993, the now 25-year-old Tschermser won his first twelve World Cup points at the 1993 Alpine Ski World Cup in Oppdal , Norway .

In that winter season, the Burggräfler was three times among the top ten in the giant slalom in the Alpine Ski World Cup 1993/94 . He achieved his best World Cup season with a total of 163 World Cup points, 46th place in the overall standings and 15th place in the giant slalom. On March 23, 1994, Königsrainer crowned this season with 10th place in the giant slalom in Hafjell at the XVII. 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer .

The 1994/95 season was his weakest World Cup season. In return, the man from Tscherms won five FIS races in his personal discipline giant slalom this winter and made it into the top ten seven times in the 1994/95 European Cup , where he climbed twice on the podium . He was also among the top ten in the giant slalom at the 1995 Far East Cup in Korea and at the Italian Championships .

Königsrainer opened the 1995/96 season with a 5th place in the giant slalom in the 1995/96 Alpine Ski World Cup in Tignes , France . On February 12, 1996, the giant slalom specialist in Kranjska Gora in Slovenia won the giant slalom in the 1995/96 European Cup . As runner-up in the Italian Championships, the giant slalom driver finished the season in Ponte di Legno on March 29, 1996 .

The 1996/97 season had two highlights for Königsrainer. On February 12, 1997, he achieved his best placement in a world championship with the 13th place in giant slalom at the 34th Alpine World Ski Championships in 1997 in Sestriere . On March 27, 1997, the South Tyrolean finally won the Italian Championships in Cerreto Laghi for the second time since 1993 .

On October 26, 1997, the man from the Burggrafenamt started the new season with a 10th place in the giant slalom race in the Alpine Ski World Cup 1997/98 in Tignes . His best placement was a fourth giant slalom place in the 1997/98 European Cup in Sella Nevea on February 14, 1998. Otherwise, he was eight times in the top ten at the FIS races this season.

Königsrainer started this season symptomatically with an unfinished World Cup race. The Tschermser also retired prematurely in the five subsequent World Cup races. Nevertheless, he made it into the top ten eight times in the 1998/99 European Cup and finished second twice on the podium. Thus he won the overall victory in the giant slalom and the 8th place in the overall ranking in the 1999 Alpine Skiing European Cup . He also finished in the top ten in seven FIS races, but retired from the Italian Championships towards the end of the season in late March 1999. As the season began, it ended: on April 7, 1999, the South Tyrolean contested his last race, an FIS slalom race, and was eliminated one last time. Königsrainer ended his career in 1999 at the age of 31.
