Köse is a city and at the same time the administrative center of the district of the same name in the province of Gümüşhane in northeast Turkey . The city is about 30 km (47 km by road) southeast of the provincial capital .
The district of Köse is located in the east of the province and borders in the north on the central district Gümüşhane , in the south on the district Kelkit and in the west on the province Bayburt (district Demirözü ).
In 1987 the district was separated from the northeast part of the Kelkit district. Until then, there was a Bucak in this district and at the last census before the change of area (1985) it had a population of 14,385, of which 4,122 were in the Bucak capital ( Bucak Merkezi ), the municipality of Köse.
In addition to the district town, the district consists of 14 villages ( Köy ) with 365 residents per village. Salyazı is the largest village with 1,365 inhabitants. The population density is slightly above the provincial average of 24 inhabitants per square kilometer.
