history

origin

The origin of the population of Kötüre cannot be clearly proven and is mainly determined by oral traditions. According to this, the original origin is in northeastern Iran / southern Turkmenistan, in the region of today's Mashhad ( Khorasan ). At the end of the 13th century, people settled in Erzurum , in what was then the dominion of the Qara Qoyunlu . Around the year 1467 the ancestors emigrated to Pertek in Dersim in Eastern Anatolia after the end of the Qara Qoyunlu rule . The population already resident there used the term "Çoğraşlı" (German : " those dressed in black"). The name referred to the clothing of the immigrants, which went back to the black herd animals that were brought with them and the black wool used for clothing. In view of the same belief, the Alevism , the residents of Pertek tolerated the foreigners known as Çoğraşlı , despite initial hostilities. They stayed there for almost two centuries before they emigrated again and found a suitable place for agriculture in Akçadağ in Malatya . The Çoğraşlı tribe grew steadily during this time. By building up economic, social and cultural structures, one gained reputation in the area. At the end of the 18th century, however, as a result of disagreements with other tribes, part of the tribe separated, which resulted in one last emigration.

Emergence

The village of Kötüre was built near the village of “Gözpınar” in Afşin, where the founders stayed for a short time. According to research, the name Kötüre is based on “Katura”, an ancient female name in southern Turkmenistan, which was also used for places in this region. The area around Kötüre was under the control of the large landowners ( Agha ) of Afşin at that time . Initially still working for the large landowners, they bought arable land and the previously little used but fertile soil around the stream flowing there due to the dense forest cover. On this one could build a water mill, which one knew how to use through acquired knowledge in Akçadağ.

Modern times

As part of the recruitment agreement between the Federal Republic of Germany and Turkey , the first residents left Kötüre in 1965. If Germany was the main destination at first, other European countries followed suit over time. At the end of the eighties again parts of the population left Kötüre, this time with the goal of England . The emigrated families maintained contact despite the distance. The connection to the home village was strengthened again in 2003 by the establishment of a foundation for the modernization of Kötüre. A sewer system was built in Kötüre, which is very unusual for a town of this size. In addition, a Cemevi , a meeting place and place of worship for the practice of the Alevi faith, was built in Kötüre.

Culture

Kötüre is predominantly Alevi - Kurdish . The Kurdish language was largely lost due to adaptation and trade with surrounding Turkish-speaking towns, but is still spoken by older people.

economy

The economy of Kötüre is mainly limited to the cultivation of wheat and chickpeas, and to a lesser extent to cattle breeding. In addition, poplars are planted for wood production.
