Kiss me if you want (Original title: Embrassez qui vous voudrez) is a French feature film directed by Michel Blanc from 2002. It is based on the novel Summer Things by Joseph Connolly .
action
Two couples of friends go on vacation to the seaside resort of Touquet . One couple is rich, the other poor; but the father tries to hide it. Several affairs develop.
Elizabeth and Bertrand are typical representatives of Parisian society. However, behind the facade of a perfect marriage is dissatisfaction and boredom. He is a successful real estate agent who often has fun with much younger women or men behind his wife's back. She suffers from the overwhelming, uneventful life of a housewife and is therefore looking forward to a family vacation at the sea with daughter Emily. Bertrand withdraws at the last minute and sends Julie, Elizabeth's best friend but also one of his former lovers, in his place. Bertrand feels free for a new love affair in Paris.
The neighbors Véro and Jérôme, on the other hand, have very elementary problems. Jérôme is unemployed and earns a job as a gas meter reader. He tries to keep his unemployment a secret from Véro and his son Loic because he has the feeling that he is a failure. Since Véro wants to keep up with the neighbors, both families end up in the same resort. Lies and deceptions are now the order of the day and, along with numerous errors, misunderstandings and surprises, are inevitable.
criticism
“A bilious relationship comedy that, despite all its malevolence, shows understanding for the errors and mistakes of the protagonists. The extremely funny film is carried by an outstanding cast ensemble. "
TV Today rated: “Disguised as a holiday flirt burlesque, the film philosophizes about true love: is it possible in a world where appearances reign? In order to find this out, satire brings up a lot of staff. "
prisma.de wrote briefly: The director "staged [...] with a light hand an extremely funny dance of love, in which everyone loves, kisses and, with a wink, swears loyalty."
Awards
The Césars 2003 was Karin Viard as Best Supporting Actress Award. Gaspard Ulliel won the Prix Lumières for best young actor for his performance .
