The type series KHD V6M 536 R was a three-axle diesel locomotive with rod drive , which was designed for shunting service. A total of around 35 locomotives were built by Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD) between 1952 and 1958 and were in service until the 1990s.

Several locomotives have been preserved at various locations.

development

The production of the KHD V6M 536 R ran largely parallel to the KHD V6M 436 R , but a new series of engines was used for this locomotive. At that time, the engine designation at KHD was identical to the locomotive designation. The basis of the name was this new engine series, which was designed as a water-cooled four-stroke engine with cylinders arranged vertically. The engine designation V6M 536 R means: V = four-stroke engine, 6 = number of cylinders, M = water-cooled, 5 = fifth design of the engine series, 36 = piston stroke in cm and R = standard-gauge shunting locomotive.

The locomotives were built in two series. While the first series (1952–1955) still had the high front end like the Wehrmacht WR 360 C 14 locomotive, but had more rounded edges than the KHD V6M 436 R, the locomotives of the second series (from 1955) were given a raised driver's cab to allow visibility of the locomotive staff. These also had the rounded edges.

Sales locomotives first series

The machines of the first series were delivered to Germany:

Nine locomotives were sold to Sweden : Trafikaktiebolaget Grängesberg – Oxelösunds järnväger (TGOJ) received TGOJ V 801–807 , one went to Svenska Kullagerfabriken in Hofors Bruk and one to Domnarvets Jernverk in Domnarvet .

Five locomotives were delivered to Luxembourg as CFL class 450 and three locomotives came to the Netherlands .

Sales locomotives second series

From this series were delivered to Germany:

Ten locomotives were delivered to the Netherlands.

technology

The locomotives as the KHD V6M R 436 with three axes , which arranged between the second and third axis dummy shaft and connecting rods have been driven built. The cab was at the rear of the locomotive. They had six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engines with the designation KHD V6M 536 R . These were water-cooled and could be started with compressed air. Power Transmission was a fluid transmission from Voith used.

Locomotives first delivery series

Rheinische AG for lignite mining

This locomotive was delivered in 1953 and was in service until 1989. Then it was sold to a private citizen in Belgium . In 1998 she returned to Germany and has belonged to the Rheinisches Industriebahn-Museum in Cologne since 2015 .

CFL series 450

The CFL class 450 locomotives were delivered in 1953 and were in service until the early 1980s. The CFL 455 came to the 1604 Classics club after being retired in 2004.

Locomotives second delivery series

Opel

The locomotive sold to Opel was put into service in 1959 and was in service in Rüsselsheim until the end of the 1980s. Then it was sold to a factory in Zagreb . The last entry about the locomotive dates from 1999.

VW

Two locomotives of the series went to the VW plants in Wolfsburg and Braunschweig in 1956 and 1957 and later to the VW plant in Mexico . In 2019, both locomotives were taken over from the Pueblo de Zaragoza Railway Museum in Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza .

State minister Beatrix

Two of the locomotives delivered to the Netherlands still exist. The locomotives were in service at Staatsmijn Beatrix from 1958 to 1969, after which they were sold to a company in Arnhem , where they were active until around 2007. One locomotive was loaned to the Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij Museum , the other was still privately owned in 2015.
