KSM is an American girl band from Los Angeles , California. The band consists of Shelby Cobra (vocals), Katie Cecil (rhythm guitar), Kate Cabebe (drums) and Shae Padilla (lead guitar).

The group achieved popularity in the summer of 2009 with their cover version of the song I Want You to Want Me by Cheap Trick . The song was used to promote the new TV series 10 Things I Hate About You on ABC Family .

Band history

KSM emerged from a collaboration between the Walt Disney Company and the girls' band The Go-Gos . The Go-Gos were looking for a group to lead and make the new pop band in 2006. Four young people were selected for this after a casting. However, the genre then changed from pop to rock. The band KSM was founded in February 2008 with the lead singer Shelby Cobra. The Go-Gos were no longer associated with the project.

On September 22, 2009, KSM released their debut album Read Between the Lines , which was written and produced by Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil. KSM is under contract with Walt Disney Records , part of the Disney Music Group. They were the opening act for various Disney stars like Mitchel Musso , Demi Lovato , and the Jonas Brothers , but also for other bands like Paramore and David Archuleta .

Read Between the Lines , the album's first single and theme song, was iTunes Single of the Week. The Billboard Album Review compared KSM as a youth-free version of the go-gos, with the same "distinctively individual look, fiery stage performances and monster riffs". The band was referred to as Avril Lavigne's "next of kin" with even more punk energy and said that KSM's rock was stronger and more real than Miley Cyrus '. Other reviews weren't so positive, the band's sound was compared to that of No Doubt and the voice of lead singer Cobra was called “restricted” and the “worst squeaky side of Gwen Stefani ”.

On April 20, 2010 it was announced that bassist Sophia Melon is leaving the group to study.
