The locomotive class KZ8A the railway from Kazakhstan (KTZ) is an electric double locomotive for the freight train operation under 25 kV AC voltage . The locomotive was developed by Alstom and built in a pilot series. It serves as a replacement for the more than 520 locomotives of the Soviet series ВЛ80 at the KTZ. The working name of the locomotives at the supplier was Prima Ru for the first locomotive , followed by Prima Kz .
history
In 2010, as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum , the Kazakhstan Railway Company signed a three-way contract with Alstom and Transmashholding (TMH) for the development and construction of eight-axle and four-axle electric locomotives. A contract for support in the construction and delivery of electric locomotives on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan was concluded with the Novocherkassk electric locomotive factory , which belongs to TMH . The joint venture company Electrovoz kurastyru zauyty (EKZ) was founded in Kazakhstan for construction and delivery .
The eight-axle freight train locomotive was named KZ8A in analogy to the existing KZ4A passenger train electric locomotive , which was developed by Siemens Mobility and supplied from China. The four-axle passenger locomotive subsequently developed by Alstom together with TMH was given the designation KZ4AT .
The meaning of the abbreviation is: KZ is the abbreviation for Kazakhstan; the number indicates the number of driven axles, the letter A indicates the presence of three-phase drive motors .
The main purpose of purchasing the KZ8A freight locomotive is the complete replacement of over 500 obsolete electric locomotives of the ВЛ80 S + T series , which are operated in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan .
For the construction of the KZ8A electric locomotive, Alstom mainly relied on the prototype of the Prima II locomotive . Instead, only the traction converter of the Prima II was used for the ЭП20 , which was developed at the same time as TMH . The following special features could also be incorporated into the construction of the KZ8A;
- The front design of the KZ8A is from the Prima project III has been adopted.
- The KZ8A has simplified traction converters, the type DSA 250 pantographs are installed . [1]
The electric locomotive is mainly used for freight trains with a mass of up to 9,000 tons.
The first 25 vehicles had been delivered by early 2015. It is planned to procure up to 200 locomotives by 2020.
The first 25 locomotives were manufactured in France by the end of 2014 and then shipped to the port of St. Petersburg . From there they were transported to Kazakhstan by rail. The other series deliveries have since taken place from EKZ's production in Nur-Sultan .
business
The locomotives have been in regular operation since autumn 2013. 45 locomotives had been built by 2018. The locomotives were previously assigned to the Astana depot.
Worth mentioning
The locomotives are considered to be one of the most powerful locomotives in the world. You can use freight trains with a mass up to 9000 t convey on level ground. On gradients of 6 per mille, the manufacturer states that they still have 6000 t - trains could move easily. They are designed for use under extreme climatic conditions in the temperature range of −50 ° C to +40 ° C can be used.
- maximum starting tractive effort = 833 kN;
- maximum braking force = 500 kN;
- the power of the recuperation brake is 7600 kW.
The mass of the electric locomotive is 200 t, the drive power as an hourly output 8800 kW and the maximum speed 120 km / h.
particularities
- The paintwork of the locomotive was initially similar to that of the KZ4A locomotive . Later it was replaced by the uniform design of the Kazakh railway.
- The front design of the locomotive was originally the same as the ЭП20 .
- The pantographs of the KZ4A and KZ8A locomotives are uniform and interchangeable.
- The KZ4AT passenger train version has a different design.
Competitor
In the successor states of the Soviet Union with their 1520 mm wide-gauge network , a competition for replacement investments in locomotives arose. Various partnerships were entered into with international corporations. In Russia this takes place as a joint venture or in the form of joint ventures with a Russian majority. In Kazakhstan, the former EKZ joint venture is majority owned by Alstom in 2018.
In the field of electric freight locomotives with 25 kV 50 Hz alternating voltage resulted in the following types:
- Double locomotive 2ЭС7 from the Ural Lokomotivwerke in cooperation with Siemens. Both locomotives stood in a row at the Expo-1520 exhibition in July 2013.
- Double locomotive 2ЭС5 from Transmashholding in cooperation with Alstom.
- Siemens Vectron for the Finnish Railways .
- Double locomotive 2ЭВ120 from Pervaya lokomotivnaya kompagniya (PLK) Engels in cooperation with Bombardier ( Traxx F120MS ).
