The drive is diesel-electric , in contrast to the diesel-mechanical drive usually used on coasters . Electricity is generated by three six-cylinder diesel engines the manufacturer Volvo Penta (type: D 13 mg) with 400 kW power , the three generators manufacturer Leroy-Somer drive. A Caterpillar generator (type: CAT C4.4 DI-T) was installed as an emergency generator . Propulsion is carried out by two electric motors from the manufacturer Leroy-Somer, each with an output of 375 kW. The motors act on two fixed propellers via reduction gears . The ship type is equipped with an electrically powered bow thruster with 350 kW power. Thanks to the diesel-electric drive with two electric drive motors, each with 375 kW power, the type of ship should consume relatively less fuel than a comparable coaster with a diesel-mechanical drive. Since the ship type is equipped with two drive trains, one can be switched off if only little drive power is required, e.g. B. when driving slowly or moving downstream with the current. This can lead to further fuel savings.
The deck superstructures are located in the rear area of the ship type. The bridge is separated from the deckhouse and hydraulically adjustable in height. The masts can also be folded down to cross under bridges . With the bridge down and masts folded, the height of the type of ship is 5.3 m when loaded and 6.1 m with ballast. The ship type is intended for operation with five crew members . If necessary, another person can be accommodated.
In front of the superstructure there is a box-shaped cargo space that is closed with ten pontoon hatch covers. The hatch covers can be moved with a hatch cart. The hold is 60.6 m long, 9 m wide and 6 m high. It is equipped with two bulkheads that can be set up in 17 positions. If the bulkheads are stowed at the end of the hold, the usable length of the hold is reduced to 59.8 m. The tank top can be loaded with 15 t / m².
The ship type is prepared for the transport of containers . The container capacity is 78 TEU . There is space for 54 TEU in the room, 24 TEU on deck.
The only ship of this type to date is operated under the flag with home port Delfzijl . The ship has been chartered long-term to the Duisburg company Rhenus Maritime Services , which uses it in liner services between ports on the Rhine (primarily Duisburg) and the Humber (primarily Goole ).
