Cabinet Shehu V

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Shehu V cabinet was a government of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania , formed on November 23, 1970 by Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu of the Party of Labor of Albania PPSh (Partia e Punës e Shqipërisë) . It replaced the Shehu IV cabinet and remained in office until October 29, 1974, after which it was replaced by the Shehu VI cabinet .

The government reshuffle followed the parliamentary elections on September 20, 1970. With one exception, all ministers were already in the previous cabinet: Haki Toska was replaced by Xhafer Spahiu . Toska was subsequently secretary of the Central Committee until November 1976 .

1973 Myqerem Fuga was added as Minister for Light and Food Industry . The only other change during those four years involved longtime Defense Minister Beqir Balluku , who fell out of favor in Hoxha's summer 1974 and was removed from office on July 10. Balluku had publicly stated that he assessed the threat situation differently than Hoxha. He was sentenced to death , along with two other senior military officials, for attempted military coups and treason , and was executed on November 5, 1974.
