Kachaber (Kacha) Kaladze ( Georgian კახაბერ (კახა) კალაძე ; born February 27, 1978 in Samtredia ; English transcription: Kakhaber (Kakha) Kaladze ) is a former Georgian football player . In October 2012, Kaladze became Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy and Natural Resources in the cabinet of Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili . He has been the mayor of the capital Tbilisi since November 2017 .

Dinamo Tbilisi

Kaladze made his competitive debut at the age of 16 in the 1993/94 season. He quickly became a regular player and was the main support of the Dinamo Tbilisi team for the next four seasons . Thanks to his extraordinary talent, bigger clubs soon became aware of Kaladze.

Dynamo Kiev

In January 1998 he moved to Dynamo Kiev in the Ukraine for a transfer fee of the equivalent of € 280,000 . With Kiev he made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 1999 and played a total of 71 competitive games for the Ukrainian record champions.

AC Milan

In 2001, Kaladze became the most expensive player in Georgian football history when he moved to AC Milan for 16 million euros . Here he mostly plays as a central or left defender. In 2003 he won both the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Champions League with the Italian club , and the Italian championship title (Scudetto) the following year. In the 2006/07 season Kaladze was again Champions League winner with AC Milan when Liverpool were defeated 2-1 in the final. In the 2007/08 season he was a regular at Milan and played 32 league games. In the following season he was only used irregularly at the beginning, but not at all later due to an injury that lasted five months.

CFC genoa

Kaladse moved in August 2010 after only six league appearances in the previous season for AC Milan for CFC Genoa . At the end of the 2011/12 season, Kaladze ended his active time.

National team

Kaladze was the captain of the Georgian national team . He made his debut on March 27, 1996 against the national team of Cyprus and has since participated with Georgia in all World Cup and European Championship qualifying rounds, but was never able to qualify. He made 64 international matches. In December 2011 he resigned as a national player.

On September 5, 2009 Kaladze scored two own goals in a World Cup qualifier, causing a 2-0 defeat against Italy .

In 2012 Kaladze participated in the establishment of the Georgian Dream party alliance . The future Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili nominated him as Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development. When the cabinet was finally formed, Kaladze became Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.

In autumn 2017, Kaladze won the mayoral elections in Tbilisi .

In 2001, Kacha's brother Lewan was kidnapped and demanded a ransom of € 600,000. According to media reports, the ransom demanded by the kidnappers had been paid by the family, after which he was considered missing. On May 6, 2005, Georgian police discovered eight bodies in the Svaneti region . In February 2006 one of them could be identified as Levan Kaladze.

A court in Tbilisi sentenced the main perpetrator, Dawit Assatiani, to 25 years in prison in March 2007. He fled to the West after the crime, but was caught in Switzerland and was extradited to Georgia in November 2006. A second defendant got away with five years in prison, among other things because he had incriminated his accomplices with an extensive confession. Two other kidnappers are serving prison terms in France and Russia.
