The Kalsaune is a stream in the Hanover region , the source of which arises on the western slope of the Kronsberg as a narrow channel from several sources . The water from the Kalsaune springs emerges as natural strata water at the foot of the slope in Expo-Park Süd.

According to an unpublished landscape maintenance report by the planning group Landespflege (PGL) in 1997 on behalf of the company Expo Grund for the relocation of a section of the then also called Kalsaune dig, brook expansions and shallow troughs were created in the course of Expo 2000 and the park design, which - depending on the water flow - can be partially flooded. In particular, through the sowing of hay flowers and above all through mowing material from the meadow at Bockmerholz , plant species from the limestone swamps have settled here along the redesigned Kalsaune due to the soil conditions . In addition to the Siberian iris ( Iris sibirica ), which is distributed in this way, there are also characteristic plants such as the blue-green sedge ( Carex flacca ) and the blue-green rush ( Juncus inflexus ). But also endangered species such as the felt sedge ( Carex tomentosa ), the dull-flowered rush ( Juncus subnodulosus ) and the rare fox's orchid ( Dactylorhiza fuchsii ) have settled here.

The Kalsaune flows into the Leine in Grasdorf near Laatzen , after it was partially channeled underground as a Kalsaune trench in a dead straight bed .
