The canton of Itapaya is a municipality in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The Cantón Itapaya is one of three cantons in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Sipe Sipe in the province of Quillacollo . The canton is located in the western part of Bolivia, it borders in the north on the canton Sipe Sipe , in the west on the province Tapacarí , in the southwest on the province Arque , and in the southeast and east on the province Capinota .
The canton extends between about 17 ° 28 'and 17 ° 42' south latitude and 66 ° 18 'and 66 ° 29' west longitude, it measures up to twenty-five kilometers from north to south and from west to east. There are 25 municipalities in the canton, the central place is the town of Itapaya in the western part of the canton with 744 inhabitants, the largest town is Parotani with 2434 inhabitants, the mean altitude of the canton is 2900 m .

The canton of Itapaya is located in the Bolivian Cordillera Central in the transition area to the Bolivian lowlands. The region has a typical time-of-day climate in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than during the year.
The mean average temperature of the region is around 20 ° C (see Capinota climate diagram) and fluctuates only slightly between 16 ° C in June and July and a good 22 ° C in November and December. The annual precipitation is about 550 mm and has a pronounced dry season from April to November with monthly precipitation of less than 10 mm, only in the wet season from December to March up to 140 mm monthly precipitation.
