Qanysch Îmantajuly Satbayev (Satpaev) (born March 31, jul. / 12. April 1899 greg. In Pavlodar region , † 31 January 1964 in Moscow ) was a geologist, one of the founders of the Soviet and Kazakh economic geology , member of the Academy of Sciences of USSR and the first president of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR .
biography
Sätbajew comes from Aul No. 4 in today's Bajanaul near Pavlodar . In 1921 he met the Russian professor Michail Antonowitsch Ussow from Tomsk . Conversations with Prof. Usow sparked his interest in geology and he began studying at the Tomsk Technological Institute. He later returned to his homeland.
Merits
- Discovery of one of the world's largest copper ore deposits in the area between Ulutau and Schesqasghan
- Discovery of manganese ores in Kazakhstan during the Second World War (important for armor steel production; in these years around 70% of the manganese came from the deposit discovered by Satbayev)
- Foundation of the Geological Institute of Kazakhstan
- Establishment of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR in 1944 with the participation of Satbayev
- Author of over 640 scientific research papers
- the accuracy of the maps he created with geological forecasts for central Kazakhstan makes them valuable to this day
