Kåre Hovda (born January 24, 1944 in Veggli ; † February 13, 1999 in Rødberg ) was a Norwegian biathlete .

Kåre Hovda started as an active player for Rødberg IF . Kjell Hovda was his younger brother. He took part in the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , where he was 18th of the individual and with Tor Svendsberget , Ivar Nordkild and Magnar Solberg in fourth place just missed a medal in the relay race against the representation from the GDR. Hovda achieved his greatest international success at the Biathlon World Championships in Minsk in 1974 , where he won bronze in the relay race alongside his brother, Terje Hanssens and Tor Svendsbergets and this time was able to relegate the GDR representation to fourth place. He also finished seventh in the sprint and 12th in the individual.

Nationally, Hovda could never win an individual medal at Norwegian championships despite his international success . He achieved all of his successes in the season in which he started for the Numedal region . In 1967 he won his first title in Lier at the side of Odd Lunde , Ragnar Tveiten and his brother. Others followed in 1970 in Trondheim and 1971 in Vingelen with the same line-up, 1973 in Steinkjer with Anders Besseberg , his brother and Tveiten and 1974 with Kjell Flesaker , Tveiten and his brother in Vingrom . In 1968 , 1972 and 1977 he was runner-up.
