Karin Blaser (born February 27, 1979 in Langenwang ) is a former Austrian ski racer . She won three medals at Junior World Championships and in 2004 the overall European Cup . In the World Cup , her best placement was fifth in the Super-G in St. Anton in 1999. She never made it to the top of the world, also due to numerous injuries. Her specialty disciplines were downhill and super-G.
biography
Blaser competed in her first FIS race as a 15-year-old in December 1994, and a year later she competed in the European Cup . On December 28, 1996, she started the slalom on Semmering for the first time in a World Cup race , but could not qualify for the second round. She celebrated her first major success at the Junior World Championships in Schladming in 1997, where she won the silver medal in the downhill and super-G. In the following season 1997/98 she reached her first podium places in the European Cup, ended the season as third in the Super-G classification.
1998/99 was their most successful season. She achieved her best World Cup result with 5th place at the Super-G in St. Anton on January 16, 1999, plus a ninth place at the Super-G in St. Moritz on March 6, 1999. At the only participation in an Alpine Ski World Championship in Vail on February 5, 1999, she was eliminated in the combination in the 2nd round of the slalom. This season she also won her first European Cup races and made it to second place in the Super-G classification , even though she was constantly in the World Cup. She celebrated her greatest success on March 14, 1999 with the gold medal in Super-G at the Junior World Championship in Pra-Loup .
The following season started promisingly with eleventh place in the Super-G in Lake Louise , but then Blaser injured himself and had to end the World Cup winter early. In her comeback season she could not match her good results in the World Cup, but in the European Cup she even won a race and reached fourth place in the Super-G classification . 2001/02 she was also fourth in the Super-G and downhill classification. In the 2003/04 season she won the overall standings and the downhill standings with five downhill victories in the European Cup.
On December 15, 2005, she was eleventh in the World Cup downhill in Cortina d'Ampezzo , but shortly afterwards she was injured again and was out for the rest of the season . She celebrated her comeback with tenth place at the World Cup downhill run in Lake Louise on December 3, 2005. A few days later, she crashed on the downhill run in Val-d'Isère and had to pause for a few weeks, after which she only competed in European Cup races and reached Tenth place in the Super-G classification . On December 13, 2006, Blaser fell badly during Super-G training in Zauchensee , tore his Achilles tendon and broke his ankle in his right foot.
In May 2007, Blaser announced her retirement from ski racing because she no longer wanted to take on the burdens associated with the preparations for the World Cup season. She contested her last race on December 3, 2006 in Lake Louise, finishing 30th in the Super-G.
Karin Blaser is married and has two daughters. Since April 2008 she has been a trainer at the regional performance center HS Langenwang.
