Karin Graßhof

Karin Graßhof (born June 25, 1937 in Kiel ) is a former judge of the Federal Constitutional Court .

Graßhof studied at the Universities in Kiel and Lausanne Law and received his doctorate at the University of Kiel. She then worked as a judge at the regional courts in Kiel and Bonn . Between working at the regional courts, she worked for the Federal Ministry of Justice for two years . 1975–1977 she was a full-time member of the state justice examination office at the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia .

In 1984 she was elected judge at the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe , where she was a member of a civil senate. Two years later, in 1986, she became a judge of the Federal Constitutional Court as a member of the Second Senate, in which her department included electoral law and electoral review procedures. Her term of office ended after 12 years in October 1998. Her successor at the Federal Constitutional Court was Lerke Osterloh .

As a reporter, her department included electoral law / electoral review procedures, citizenship law, extradition law, forfeiture of fundamental rights. As a judge, she was involved in the decision of the Federal Constitutional Court of September 14, 1989 to use the diary of a prisoner; on the decision regarding the five percent hurdle in the first all-German election ; regarding the right to vote for foreigners in Schleswig-Holstein ; the decision on § 218 of May 28, 1993; on the Maastricht judgment of October 12, 1993; the AWACS decision of July 12, 1994; the decision on the criminal liability of GDR foreign espionage of May 15, 1995; the decision on the wall rifle trials of October 26, 1996; the decisions on the admissibility of overhang mandates of April 10, 1997 and of February 26, 1998; and the decision to introduce the euro on March 31, 1998.

On February 25, 1999, Graßhof became honorary professor at the University of Bonn . Until the end of 2011 she was a member of the editorial board of the Bonn Commentary on the Basic Law . Since 2000 she has been in charge of the reference work on the case law of the Federal Constitutional Court , which is published by CF Müller .
