The Karl-von-Frisch-Gymnasium from the south

The Karl-von-Frisch-Gymnasium (short: KvFG ) in Dußlingen is the only gymnasium in Baden-Württemberg with a community administration association as a sponsor. It is named after the behavioral scientist Karl von Frisch .

location

The grounds of the school center are located immediately south of the Dusslingen district on the boundary between the neighboring communities of Nehren and Gomaringen .

history

The history of the Karl-von-Frisch-Gymnasium began in 1990 when the Quenstedt-Gymnasium in Mössingen received 170 new registrations for the following school year (1990/1991). So six parallel classes had to be set up and the population statistics showed that the following years would bring even more students to grammar school. Since the Quenstedt-Gymnasium could not cope with this number of students, the idea arose to build a gymnasium near the Steinlach-Wiesaz Realschule (today: Maria-Sibylla-Merian-Realschule) on the Höhnisch.

On September 4, 1990, the three mayors of the municipal administration association Steinlach-Wiesaz , Ettwein ( Nehren ), Schiffmacher ( Dusslingen ) and Schmiderer ( Gomaringen ) presented their intentions to the then Minister of Education, Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder , who had this matter examined in his ministry and then agreed to try.

On August 27, 1991, lessons could begin for the first students. The first two classes were initially taught in the rooms of the Realschule, until a year later in October 1992 the new school building (today the lower level wing) with six classrooms, a teacher's room, sanitary facilities and collection rooms was moved into. Soon, however, the building became too small and so the planning and construction of the second (large auditorium , twelve additional classrooms) and third (specialist wing: rooms for chemistry, physics, biology, art, geography; computer room) began in the 1995 school year / Completed and inaugurated in 1996.

In the same year, more precisely on November 20, 1995, the previously unnamed school was given its current name. It was named after the zoologist Karl Ritter von Frisch because of its hexagonal shape, which is reminiscent of honeycombs , because he was primarily concerned with the life and behavior of honey bees. This makes the KvFG, next to the Karl-Ritter-von-Frisch high school in Moosburg an der Isar, the second high school in Germany to have the Austrian Nobel Prize laureate as its name.

From the 1999/2000 school year, 534 pupils were taught for the first time in all grades (grades 5–13). In June 2000 the first year of high school graduation (27 students) was passed. At this point in time it could be estimated that around 750 pupils would have to be looked after in the long term, since pupils from the hardship communities ( Jettenburg , Wankheim , Mähringen and Immenhausen ) were now also being taught. So an official application was made for the three-movement allowance, which was recognized by the high school authorities at the end of 2000.

On October 25, 2002 the groundbreaking took place for the fourth construction phase, which became necessary due to the increasing number of students. It was conceived as a connection between the secondary school and the grammar school, which, in addition to a cafeteria , which is now run by parents and volunteers (“meeting point cafeteria”), should contain other classrooms and specialist rooms. It was inaugurated with a festival on January 30, 2005 after a 15-month construction period. The “Treffpunkt Mensa” started its work in November 2004 and has been providing the students with warm lunches on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Since the 2004/2005 school year, all new fifth graders have to attend the eight-year grammar school (shortened course - G8).

In July 2010 the groundbreaking of the new building of the Karl-von-Frisch-Gymnasium, which was finished at the beginning of the school year 2011/2012. This new building is not an extension of the previous school building. For reasons of cost, the honeycomb shape was not used.
