Karl Albrecht (born February 21, 1859 in Bergen auf Rügen ; † December 21, 1929 in Oldenburg in Oldenburg ; full name: Carl Adolf Friedrich Nicolaus Albrecht ) was a philologist , Lutheran theologian and orientalist .

Life

Karl Albrecht was the son of the registrar Carl Heinz Moritz Albrecht (1829-1891) and Caroline Marie Catherine, born. Kruger (1826-1868). He attended grammar school in Greifswald from 1871 to 1879 . This was followed by studies in theology , German , Latin and Hebrew philology at the universities of Greifswald , Rostock and Berlin from 1879 to 1885. In the winter semester of 1879/80 he became a member of the Germania Greifswald fraternity . From 1885 to 1886 Albrecht was a trial teacher in Pyritz and then from 1886 to 1896 as a senior teacher at the large city school in Wismar . He was one of the first teachers to include contemporary writers in school lessons. In 1890 Albrecht received his doctorate from the University of Göttingen . In the years 1895 to 1929 he was a senior teacher at the Oberrealschule in Oldenburg , where he taught until 1924 and then retired in Oldenburg iO

The Theological Faculty of the University of Bonn awarded him the title of Licentiate in Theology hc, the University of Heidelberg the title of Doctor of Theology hc

Karl Albrecht married Helene Möller (1864–1900) in 1886 and, after her death in 1901, her sister Christine (1862–1922).

Publications

Albrecht wrote a number of extensive studies on the late Hebrew language and literature, published studies on the Spanish-Jewish school of poets and edited the texts of the Mishnah , the collection of Jewish religious laws on which the Talmud is based. He has also published works on Johann Georg Pfranger and Paul de Lagarde as well as numerous articles on the history of literature. His works included:

In the Mischna (Töpelmann, Gießen) published by Beer and Holtzmann, Albrecht edited the tracts: Kil'ajim 1914, Challa 1913, Orla 1916, Bikkurim 1922. He also drew with Salomon Funk and Nivard Schlögl as editor of the Monumenta Talmudica, Orion from 1914 onwards Publishing house, Vienna & Leipzig.
