Karl Alexander von Wedel (also Wedell ) (born March 14, 1741 in Brotzen ; † November 5, 1807 in Bielefeld ) was a Prussian major general and chief of Infantry Regiment No. 10 .

Life

origin

Karl Alexander was the son of Adam Daniel von Wedell and his wife Sophie, née von Dziembowski. His father was a master of bread and cavalry in the Polish service.

Military career

Wedell came to the cadet institute in Berlin on March 4, 1758 . From there he was then employed on January 27, 1759 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "Duke of Braunschweig" No. 5 of the Prussian Army . Wedell took part in the Seven Years' War and fought near Liegnitz and the siege of Dresden. At Torgau , he received a shot in the loin. On November 10, 1760, he became an ensign and on May 2, 1763, he was second lieutenant .

After the war he became Prime Lieutenant on January 19, 1770 and then took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On June 18, 1779 he was staff captain and on October 25, 1781 captain and company commander . On July 29, 1787 he came as a major in the Füselier Battalion "von Ernest" No. 19. On May 27, 1789 he also received the order Pour le Mérite .

During the First Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Kaiserslautern and took part in the battles at La Lune, Waldalgesheim, Alzey, Neuenkirchen, Limbach, Spietz, St. Imbert, Bisingen and the siege of Verdun.

On January 20, 1795 he became lieutenant colonel and shortly thereafter on March 12, 1795 commander of the Füselier battalion "von Schenk" No. 1 and stood with this in the observation corps on the Weser . Wedel became colonel on May 31, 1798 in the Kurmärkische Füselierbrigade and finally on August 13, 1799 commander of the infantry regiment "von Schladen" No. 41 . On November 14, 1801 he became Sous Inspector General of the Westphalian Inspection of Infantry. On December 29, 1803 he was appointed chief of the infantry regiment "von Besser" No. 10. On May 20, 1804, he was also appointed major general. Wedell was already seriously ill when he was put on half his salary after losing the Fourth Coalition War . He died a short time later on November 5, 1807 in Bielefeld.

Wedell married Friederike Sophie von Stephani in 1782 (* May 2, 1762 in Hohenlandin; † April 1, 1855 in Gemünden). The couple had the following children:
