Karl Böckenhoff

Karl Böckenhoff (born July 10, 1870 in Schermbeck , † May 9, 1917 in Strasbourg ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman, canon lawyer and moral theologian .

Life

After graduating from high school, Karl Böckenhoff entered the Collegium Borromaeum in Münster , where he studied theology and philosophy at the Catholic Royal Academy from 1890 to 1893 . On May 19, 1894 he received the sacrament of ordination from Bishop Hermann Jakob Dingelstad and was subsequently appointed vicar to St. Lambertus in Dolberg .

In 1897 Böckenhoff was released for three years to study at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . During this time he held the position of chaplain at the German National Church of Santa Maria dell'Anima and was employed at various authorities of the Curia . In 1900 and 1901 Böckenhoff studied law in Berlin , and in 1901 was awarded a doctorate with a thesis on De individuitate matrimonii at the Catholic Royal Academy in Münster. theol. et iur. obtained his doctorate and took on a position as a private lecturer there in 1902 . In 1905 he was appointed associate professor for canon law at the University of Strasbourg , and in 1908 he changed to the chair of moral theology.
