Karl Bader (born January 4, 1960 in Lilienfeld , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 2003 to 2008 he was a member of the Federal Council delegated by the Lower Austria state parliament , from 2008 to 2018 he was a member of the state parliament, and since 2018 he has been a member of the Federal Council again. In the second half of 2019, he acted as President of the Federal Council .

education and profession

After elementary school in his home town of Rohrbach , Bader attended secondary school in the neighboring town of Hainfeld before he switched to the upper secondary school in St. Pölten . There he graduated from high school in 1978. The subsequent visit to the Pedagogical Academy in Baden , he completed in 1981 with the teaching examination for secondary school.

After his military service , Bader worked as a secondary school teacher for English , geography and history at the secondary school in St. Veit an der Gölsen from 1982 , of which he became director in 2003. As a result of his political activities, Bader has been decommissioned on January 1, 2004 without pay.

Political offices

Bader was initially a managing member of the Rohrbach an der Gölsen municipal council from 1985 to 1987 before he was promoted to vice mayor. He has been mayor since 1990. Since 2003 he has been party chairman of the ÖVP in the Lilienfeld district .

On April 24, 2003, Bader succeeded Margarete Aburumieh as a representative of Lower Austria in the Austrian Federal Council , of which he was a member until April 9, 2008. From 2008 he was a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament, replacing a member of the government .

Bader's policy focuses on the areas of national defense, economy and work, education and culture as well as women's affairs.

After the state elections in Lower Austria in 2018 , he left the state parliament and moved to the Federal Council. In May 2018 he was elected to succeed Edgar Mayer as chairman of the parliamentary group of the ÖVP from October 1, 2018.
