Karl Biese

Karl Biese (born September 19, 1863 in Hamburg , † November 19, 1926 in Tübingen ) was a German landscape painter and lithographer .

After his apprenticeship as a house painter , he first worked as a theater painter . With a scholarship he came to the Karlsruhe Art Academy in 1883 . In 1886 he returned to Hamburg, passed the master craftsman examination in painting and started his own business. In 1892 he sold his painting business and returned to the Karlsruhe Academy. There he became a master student of Gustav Schönleber . In 1899 he moved with his wife to Grötzingen in the former Margravial Augustenburg Castle , where his artist colleagues Jenny Fikentscher , Otto Fikentscher , Franz Hein and Gustav Kampmann from the Grötzingen painters' colony lived. After numerous other moves, he finally spent his old age in Tübingen .

Karl Biese was a co-founder of the Karlsruhe Artists' Union and, after Franz Hein, its chairman for some time. The Karlsruher Künstlerbund had its own lithography workshop, the Künstlerbund Karlsruhe .

He found his nature motifs on numerous trips around Karlsruhe , the Black Forest , the Moselle region , the Rhineland and the north German lowlands . His mood pictures from the seasons, especially his winter pictures made him known. His preferred techniques were oil painting and lithography .

On behalf of the Cologne chocolate producer Ludwig Stollwerck, he designed collecting pictures for Stollwerck scrapbooks , etc. a. the series “From German Lands” for Stollwerck's collector's album number 5 from 1904.
