After he had passed his first theological exam in October 1863, he devoted himself to philological studies in his parents' house. In the summer of 1864 he entered the school service of the Herzogliche Gymnasium zu Holzminden as a collaborator for a quarter of a year and continuously from January 1865, first as an assistant teacher, after passing the exam in July 1866 on October 17, 1866 as a collaborator . In July 1870 he passed the main theological examination and was appointed senior teacher by patent from July 12, 1874 .

By patent from April 1, 1884, Dauber was promoted to grammar school director and headed the Herzogliche Gymnasium zu Holzminden for five and a half years until October 15, 1889. On May 8, 1888, he was awarded the Knight's Cross, 2nd class of the Order of Henry the Lion , for his work .

Appointed professor, he was then transferred as rector to the Ducal Gymnasium in Wolfenbüttel . Since June 17, 1891 he was an extraordinary member of the Ducal High School Commission and since June 30, 1891 of the commission for examining candidates for the higher education office; since October 1892 he was a member of the examination committee for one-year volunteers . On June 2, 1893, he was appointed a full member of the Ducal Ministerial Commission, Section of Spiritual and School Affairs.

On April 1, 1893, Dauber was appointed director of the Herzogliche Neue Gymnasium in Braunschweig and head of the associated educational seminar. In 1897 he was appointed school councilor, in 1903 high school councilor. During his term of office, the school was renamed the Herzogliches Wilhelm-Gymnasium on April 1, 1906. a. family

From the beginning of his activity in Braunschweig, Dauber lived directly at the grammar school in the house of the director at Adolfstrasse 57, in which his predecessor in office Alfred Eberhard , first director of the Ducal New grammar school, lived until his retirement and in that also until 1911 Miss Marie Dauber was registered, probably Dauber's daughter, niece or sister. A possible son, nephew or brother of Dauber, Wilhelm Dauber, a businessman by trade, was registered at Hohethorpromenade 7 in 1900 and at Münzstraße 15 in 1902. After leaving the service in 1916, Dauber moved from Adolfstrasse to Steintorwall 7a. From 1921 to 1927 a widow Gertrude Dauber, presumably Dauber's sister-in-law, was registered at Kaiser Wilhelmstrasse 35. From 1926 a Karl Dauber of the same name, presumably Dauber's son, nephew or grandson, a surveyor by profession, is registered at Salzdahlumerstraße 4, from 1930 at Siegfriedstraße 35, from 1936 to 1942 at Siegfriedstraße 99.
