Karl Emil von Wartensleben

Karl Emil von Wartensleben (* May 1669 in winter Buren ; † 3. February 1714 in Kassel ) was landgräflich Hesse-Kassel shear Colonel and Brigadier , Upper hofmeister and upper treasurer of the Countess Amalie of Hesse and owner of the good winter Buren near Kassel.

He was a member of the noble family of the barons of Wartensleben, who were raised to the rank of imperial count in the next generation . His parents were the Dutch Colonel Christian von Wartensleben (* October 21, 1630, † 1675) and his wife Cornelie Riviere d'Arthot.

On March 20, 1709 he married Katharine Christiane (Christophine) von Plessen (* July 22, 1690 - † February 3, 1755). The couple had two sons and two daughters, three of whom died young. Only the son Karl Friedrich (* March 13, 1710; † March 6, 1778), later Imperial Chamberlain and Dutch Lieutenant General, survived .

His widow married the Danish privy councilor and Oberlanddrosten zu Oldenburg , Emanuel Friedrich von Kötzschau , on October 11, 1725 .

Career

He was initially in the Dutch, then in the Venetian service and finally joined the Hesse-Kassel military. In 1702, as a colonel, he founded the 9th Infantry Regiment with 10 companies. It was named after Prince Georg from 1709 to 1755 , and from 1755 after Prince Karl of Hesse . It existed as the first battalion of the third line infantry regiment until 1832 and was eventually divided between the two battalions of the third infantry regiment. In the War of the Spanish Succession, his regiment was one of the 8,000 auxiliary troops that Landgrave Karl , as an ally of Great Britain, the Emperor and Holland, had joined the troops of the allies in support of the English. The regiment took part in the victorious battle of Hochstädt in August 1704.

On March 12, 1706, Wartensleben became a brigadier and in 1709, for a short time, commandant of the Ziegenhain Fortress . In 1713 he finished his military service and became chief steward and chamberlain to the countess. He died on February 3, 1714 in Kassel.
