Life

Friccius, son of Johann Christoph Friccius (1743–1796) and Friederika Elisabeth Hemptenmacher, studied law in Halle. On September 29, 1800 he became an auscultator at the Altmark High Court. In 1804 he was appointed senior court assessor. In the fourth coalition war after the Prussian defeat at Jena and Auerstedt , he wanted to volunteer. However, since he had not served and had no aristocratic privilege, he was initially not accepted. But later he became a second lieutenant. When four brigades with 19 reserve battalions were formed in East Prussia, then Major Gneisenau became his battalion commander. He was sent to Danzig for defense . During the siege of this fortress from 1806 to 1807, he distinguished himself through the independent defense of Neufahrwasser (near Danzig).

To the wars of liberation , he joined in 1813, again in the military and was Major and commander of the 1st East Prussian Landwehr - battalion , headed by it at Dennewitz fought (Iron Cross 2nd class) and on 19 October 1813 as one of the first stormed the Grimma Gate in Leipzig and penetrated the city. On November 7th he also received the Swedish Order of the Sword for his military achievements in Leipzig.

The commanding general of the 1st Army Corps, General Friedrich Wilhelm Bülow von Dennewitz , gave him the order on November 2, 1813 to liberate the province of East Friesland. That was an award, because other outstanding staff officers had also applied for the task. On November 10th, Friccius marched in with his battalion. It was supposed to drive out the French who had not yet fled, and to organize the Landwehr and the Landsturm.

Without money, suitable personnel or equipment, he was able to set up a Landwehr with great difficulty. With the Landsturm and his East Prussian Landwehr Regiment, he took part in the siege of Delfzijl, which earned him a rebuke because the Landsturm was not allowed to be used outside the province. Nevertheless, in December 1813, he became commander of the 3rd Westphalian-East Frisian Landwehr Regiment. The regiment then fought in the Battle of Ligny , after Waterloo the regiment was used to pursue the fleeing French. In July 1815 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and received the Iron Cross 1st class . He was not taken on active duty and resigned in 1816.

He then returned permanently to the judicial service, becoming a councilor in the general auditorium in 1819 and general auditor in the army in 1830 . In addition, he belonged to the lawless society in Berlin since 1822 .
