Karl Friedrich Frisch

Karl Friedrich Frisch (born February 3, 1808 in Demmin ; † May 27, 1874 in Stockholm ) was a German-Swedish geographer and translator .

Life

Karl Friedrich Frisch attended high school in Demmin and studied theology at the University of Greifswald from 1827 . From 1830 he worked for a short time as a tutor before moving to Stockholm in 1833. There he worked at the German National School first as a teacher, later as a sub-rector and from 1851 as a vice-rector . In 1855 he was in Greifswald for Licentiate of Philosophy PhD .

During the school holidays he traveled extensively through Sweden , Norway and Denmark and, after his retirement, devoted himself entirely to his geographical and literary interests. Frisch published numerous essays and writings on the geography of Scandinavia in various German magazines, such as Petermann's Geographische Mitteilungen . His most important work is the description of the three Scandinavian countries he traveled to in the 7th edition of the Handbook of Geography and Statistics (1862) by Stein and Hörschelmann. Through his work on Grieben's travel library , he became widely known. For the Gothaischer Hofkalender , Meyers Konversations-Lexikon and the Brockhaus Konversationslexikon he worked as a geographic employee.

Through his translations, among others by Emilie Flygare-Carlén , Anders Magnus Strinnholm and Georg Swederus , he made great contributions to the dissemination of Swedish literature in Germany.

Since 1835 he was married to Carolina Josefina Teresia Hellgren.
