from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Friedrich Walch (born September 22, 1734 in Jena ; † July 20, 1799 there ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Karl Friedrich was the son of the theologian Johann Georg Walch . After training by private teachers, he moved to the University of Jena in 1748 to complete a law degree. To this end, he initially attended lectures at the philosophical faculty with Christian Heinrich Eckhard , Johann Peter Reusch , Karl Gotthelf Müller , Georg Erhard Hamberger , Johann Bernhard Wiedeburg and Christian Wilhelm Franz Walch . Johann Caspar Heimburg , Johann August von Hellfeld , Johann Andreas Hofmann (born August 29, 1716 in Tambach; † May 16, 1795 in Marburg), Christian Gottlieb Buder (born October 29, 1693 in Kittlitz; December 9th, 17 ) joined the legal faculty 1763 in Jena) and Heinrich Brockes his trainers. In 1753 he received his doctorate in law, completed his habilitation and worked for a time as a private lecturer in Jena. After becoming a member of the Latin Society in Jena in 1750, he became its chairman in 1754.

In 1755 he was appointed associate professor of law at the University of Göttingen , and in the same year he went on an educational trip that took him through Germany, the Netherlands, France and Switzerland. When he returned to Jena in 1756, he rejected the Göttingen offer. Instead, in June 1756, he received an assessor position at the Jenaer Schöppenstuhl and an extraordinary professor of rights at the Salana. In 1759 he was given the full professorship of Saxon law and he became an assessor at the Jena court. On December 1, 1764 he took over the professorship of the institutes and was thus an assessor of the law faculty. On June 14, 1766 he was promoted to the professorship of the Pandects and finally became professor of the code and the novellas in Jena.

In 1770 he was appointed Hofrat of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg, in 1774 he became a senior of the Schöppenstuhl, in 1778 a senior in the Faculty of Law and in 1783 he received the title of a secret Justitzrat of Saxe-Gotha and Saxe-Weimar. Walch was also a member of several learned societies. He became a member of the pigeon society in Florence, in 1760 a member of the Bremen learned society and in 1767 a member of the Duisburg learned society. He also participated in the organizational tasks of the Jena University. He was dean of the Faculty of Law several times and in the summer semesters 1767, 1773, 1779, 1785, 1797 and in the winter semester 1773 rector of the Alma Mater . Walch is considered to be an important contributor to German law at the end of the eighteenth century. Above all, his mixed contributions to the German right stand out.

Walch was married twice.

His first marriage was on November 22, 1762 in Zeitz with Henrietta Amalia Tischer (born June 27, 1743 in Zeitz; † April 17, 1772 in Jena), daughter of the bailiff and Saxon Chamber Commissioner Georg Gottlieb Tischer and his wife Johanna Dorothea Clauer (* Dresden; † February 13, 1758 in Zeitz). The daughter Charlotta Amalia Walch (born November 1, 1763 in Jena; † 1834) comes from the marriage

His second marriage was on April 19, 1774 with Magdalena Maria Eccard, daughter of the secret government councilor Johann Georg Eccardt in Eisenach. The daughter Wilhelmina Friderika Walch (born January 10, 1775 in Jena), the later professor of law in Jena, Karl Wilhelm Walch (born February 3, 1776 in Jena; June 29, 1853 ibid.), Who is with Christiane, is known from the marriage Friedericke had married Wilhelmine Herzlieb , the extraordinary professor of medicine in Jena Friedrich August Walch (* December 20, 1780 in Jena; † August 30, 1837 ibid.) And the classical philologist Georg Ludwig Walch (* May 8, 1785 in Jena; † January 21, 1838 in Greifswald).
