Karl Großmann (local history researcher)

Karl Großmann (born January 27, 1896 in Laasphe , † July 11, 1981 in Vlotho ) was a German teacher and local researcher .

life and work

Karl Großmann was born on January 27, 1896 as the son of the rector of the preparatory institute in Laasphe. He first attended the Progymnasium in Biedenkopf an der Lahn and later the Gymnasium in Remscheid . After graduating from high school there in 1914, he began studying German , history and geography at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . There he joined the Holzminda fraternity in 1914 . The First World War , which he survived with several injuries and as a lieutenant in the reserve , interrupted his studies . After resuming his studies, he passed the first exam at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster in 1921 and the assessor exam in 1922 . In 1922 he was charged with a dissertation on Count Johann VIII. Of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein for Dr. phil. PhD . For a short time he became an accountant at the König Ludwig colliery in Recklinghausen , until he found a position as a teacher in Petershagen in 1923 , which he held until 1939. In 1923 he married Anna Maria Hillebrecht. During the Second World War he served as a logistician with the Herford Infantry Regiment 58 , was wounded again and spent a long time in the hospital . After the Second World War he lived in 1945 in Maas Lingen and worked shortly thereafter until his retirement in 1962 as a teacher in Herford at the Queen Mathilde School .

In 1952 he moved to Vlotho. As a local researcher, he made a particular contribution to researching the history of the city of Vlotho. His main work is the story of the city of Vlotho , published in 1971 . In addition, he was a member of many associations and clubs. Among other things, he was chairman of the Heimatverein Vlotho and chairman of the local association Vlotho in the German Youth Hostel Association .

He died on July 11, 1981 in Vlotho.
