Karl Heinsheimer
Karl August Heinsheimer (born October 22, 1869 in Mannheim ; † June 16, 1929 in Heidelberg ) was a German lawyer.
Karl Heinsheimer is the son of the Grand Ducal Baden Higher Regional Court Councilor Max Heinsheimer . In 1899 Karl Heinsheimer converted from Judaism to the Evangelical Lutheran creed . Heinsheimer was married to Anna Dreyfus (* 1875, † 1955), a daughter of the businessman Max Dreyfus in Karlsruhe and the well-known women's rights activist Cäcilie Netter . The couple had two sons and a daughter.
Heinsheimer began his studies in the winter semester of 1886/87 and completed it at the universities of Lausanne , Strasbourg , Berlin , Leipzig and Freiburg . In 1891 he received his doctorate in Leipzig, in 1894 he passed the second state examination. He worked as a trainee at the district office in Waldkirch (1890–1894), as a trainee lawyer at the public prosecutor's office in Freiburg and the Mannheim district court (1894–1896), as a district judge in Mosbach (1896–1899) and as an assessor (1899–1901) or district judge (1901–1907) at the Heidelberg Regional Court
In 1903 Heinsheimer completed his habilitation at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1907 he received the professorship for Baden state private law under the representation of civil law and commercial law as well as civil law. In 1917 he founded the seminar for legal, economic and comparative law studies , which he headed until his death in 1929. In 1911/12 and 1917/18 he was dean of the law faculty and from 1927 to 1929 rector of Heidelberg University. He founded the collection of contemporary civil laws , and translated and commented on the Civil Code .
