List of rectors at Heidelberg University
The following list contains the rectors of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . It is based on the comprehensive list by Hermann Weisert, Dagmar Drüll and Eva Kritzer. The rectors up to the dissolution of the Electoral Palatinate in 1803 are listed in a selection, whereas the officials of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries are listed in full. In their case, the date of assumption of office is specified, whereas the end of the term of office can be deduced from the assumption of office of the successor.

In the early years of Heidelberg University, a new rector was elected four times a year. This procedure corresponded to the usual practice at the University of Paris and was maintained in Heidelberg until 1393. Then they went over to a half-yearly cycle, which was maintained until 1522.
