Ludwig Christian Mieg (also just Ludwig Mieg ; * August 20, 1668 in Heidelberg ; † January 19, 1740 ibid) was a German Reformed preacher , theologian and university professor .

Life

Mieg came from a wide area, which originally from Strasbourg family Mieg . He was the son of the theology professor Johann Friedrich Mieg and grandson of the Chancellor of the Electoral Palatinate Johann Ludwig Mieg and great-grandson of the statesman Ludwig Camerarius . From 1684 he studied at the universities of Heidelberg and Basel . He obtained his master's degree in philosophy in Heidelberg in 1686 . In 1689 and 1690 he worked as a Reformed preacher in Mannheim before he went on a trip to Utrecht , Leyden and Rinteln . At the University of Rinteln in 1691 he was employed as a professor of the Greek language and in Rinteln as a reformed preacher, after he had received his Lic. Theol. had received a doctorate.

Mieg took in 1694 a reputation as a full professor of church history at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Marburg in. At the same time he received a position as a Reformed preacher in Marburg on August 11, 1694 . On October 9, 1696, he was also given an extraordinary professorship in theology. His doctorate as Dr. theol. took place in 1697. Finally, on March 21, 1699, he moved to the university's theological faculty as the fourth full professor of theology. He mainly held lectures on the exegesis of the Old Testament before he was dismissed from the Hessian service on March 12, 1706 and also given up his preaching position on March 18, 1706. Before that he was rector of the university in 1698 and 1703 .

In 1706 Mieg moved back to his hometown Heidelberg as Reformed Church Councilor , professor of theology at the university, Ephorus of the Sapienzkollegium of the university and first preacher at the Heiliggeistkirche . In 1708 and 1728 he took over the office of rector of Heidelberg University, and he also held the office of dean of the theological faculty several times . After a stroke in 1730 he gave up his position as a preacher.

Mieg was married to Louise Catharina Pauli (1671–1740), daughter of Reinhold Pauli . The director of the Electoral Palatinate Marriage Court Johann Friedrich Mieg , the church council and preacher Ludwig Georg Mieg and the theology professor Johann Kasimir Mieg were his sons, Johann Friedrich Mieg , a Reformed preacher, Freemason and Illuminate, his grandson.
