Karl Huber (lawyer, 1948)

Karl Huber (* 1948 in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate ) is a German lawyer. From 2005 to 2015 he was President of both the Munich Higher Regional Court and the Bavarian Constitutional Court .

Life

Huber joined in 1966 as an official of the central service at the then municipal police of the City of Munich , then took a study of law and was under the state exam in 1981 in the Bavarian judicial service act. He obtained his doctorate in 1982 on the subject of § 34 StGB as a justification for sovereign action at the University of Munich . From 1995 to 2001 he held the office of Vice President of the Munich Higher Regional Court and from 2001 to 2005 that of the Attorney General in Munich. From March 2, 2005 he was President of the Munich Higher Regional Court and also President of the Bavarian Constitutional Court.

On July 6, 2007, Huber was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit.

In May 2014, the Constitutional Court under Huber's chairmanship ruled that Horst Seehofer's Bavarian state government had to provide the state parliament opposition with information on how much budget the five cabinet members Ludwig Spaenle , Helmut Brunner , Beate Merk , Franz Josef Pschierer , Bernd Sibler and Gerhard Eck gave theirs Had paid family members in connection with the relatives affair . Even the conservative newspaper Die Welt saw this as a slap in the face for the state government.

Karl Huber retired at the end of February 2015. Peter Küspert was appointed successor as President of the Constitutional Court and the Higher Regional Court.
