Karl I, Duke of Mecklenburg [-Güstrow] (born September 28, 1540 in Neustadt ; † July 22, 1610 in Güstrow ), was the ruling Duke of Mecklenburg in the Mecklenburg-Güstrow region .

He was the youngest son of Duke Albrecht VII. From 1564 to 1610, Karl was the administrator of the Mirow Commandery . After the death of the older brothers Johann Albrecht I († 1576) and Ulrich († 1603), he succeeded the latter on March 14, 1603 as the ruling duke in the Güstrow region and took over the guardianship of the sons of Johann VII until his death . , Johann Albrecht II. And Adolf Friedrich I. , in the Schwerin region . From 1592 to 1610 he was also the administrator of the Ratzeburg diocese .

In 1603 , Charles entrusted Sophia , the widow of John VII, with the task of administering the inheritance of her sons. In 1608, Duke Karl had Sophia's eldest son Adolf Friedrich I declared by Emperor Rudolf II to be of legal age. He was buried in Güstrow Cathedral .
