Karl Theodor Leistner (born November 3, 1825 in Schönheide ; † May 20, 1874 in Dresden ) was a German economist and national liberal politician .

Live and act

After attending grammar school in Freiberg , Leistner studied forestry and agriculture at the Tharandt Forestry Academy until Michaelis 1846 . Building on this, he studied economics in Giessen . During his studies in 1847 he became a member of the old fraternity Frankonia Gießen . In 1850/51 he was banned from Hesse because of his involvement in a republican association during the 1848 revolution . After a long stay in England and France doctorate he in 1854 at the University of Zurich Dr. phil. After completing his habilitation, he took on a lectureship in economics in Zurich, which he gave up again a short time later. Subsequently, he lived partly in Germany and partly in Switzerland. He owned a farm in his home town of Schönheide in the Ore Mountains.

From August 1867 to March 1871 he represented the 21st Saxon constituency - Annaberg – Schwarzenberg - in the Reichstag of the North German Confederation as a national-liberal member of parliament . In addition, from 1869 until his death, he was a representative of the 43rd rural constituency in the Second Chamber of the Saxon State Parliament . Leistner was also a member of the German Customs Parliament, which was convened in 1870.

During his membership in the Saxon state parliament, he campaigned for the construction of the railway from Aue (Saxony) in the valley of the Zwickauer Mulde to the Vogtland ( Adorf / Vogtl. ) And advocated the construction of a train station in Schönheiderhammer .

In 1874, his heirs donated a capital of 900 marks to the Schönheide school community, the interest of which was distributed annually to unprofitable confirmands.
