Karl Rühringer

Karl Rühringer (born January 28, 1940 in Groß Tajax , Moravia ) is an Austrian Roman Catholic priest . He was dean of St. Stephen's Cathedral and from 2001 to 2011 Episcopal Vicar of the Vicariate of Vienna City .

Life

After his family was expelled from Czechoslovakia, he lived in Bernhardsthal from 1945 . He entered the Hollabrunn boys' college in 1951 and graduated from the Hollabrunn high school in 1959 . He then moved to the Vienna seminary and studied theology at the University of Vienna . On 29 June 1965 he was in St. Stephen's Cathedral to the ordained priesthood .

Then he was chaplain in the parish Großjedlersdorf in Vienna and substitute military pastor in the Van Swieten barracks. In 1972 he became cathedral curate in St. Stephan and ceremonial of the then Auxiliary Bishop Jakob Weinbacher . In 1981 he was chaplain in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna for a year. From 1982 to 1994 he was the church rector of the Sacré Cœur Institute in Pressbaum . In 1994 he became pastor of St. Nikolaus in Vienna-Inzersdorf .

On June 7, 2001, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn appointed him Episcopal Vicar of the Vicariate of Vienna City, and in 2006 his term of office was extended by another five years. In his capacity as Episcopal Vicar is Rühringer canons of the cathedral chapter of St. Stephen and canon at St. Stephen .

Since 2005 he has been leading the Long Night of Churches in Vienna. Since September 1, 2007, Rühringer has been dean of the Vienna Metropolitan and Cathedral Chapter. Since September 1, 2011, on which Rühringer's term of office as Episcopal Vicar ended, this is the only activity that Rühringer still actively pursues.

On May 3, 2013, he was awarded the Great Silver Medal for Services to the State of Vienna and on June 14, 2017 with the Great Silver Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria .
