Karl Weber , since 1917 Ritter von Weber (born August 23, 1892 in Geiselbach , † July 20, 1941 near Smolensk ) was a German officer , most recently major general and commander of the 17th Panzer Division in World War II .

Life

Weber was the son of the wood factory owner Edmund Weber and his wife Eleonore, née Franz. After attending a humanistic grammar school , he joined the 13th Infantry Regiment “Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria and Apostolic King” on October 1, 1911 as a flag junior von Ungarn "joined the Bavarian Army and was promoted to ensign on May 21, 1912 .

As such, he took part in the Polish and Western campaigns as regimental commander after the beginning of World War II . On November 1, 1940, Weber, who was promoted to major general on December 1, 1940, took over Rifle Brigade 17, which he commanded until June 28, 1941. He was then briefly transferred to the Fuehrer's Reserve and on July 7, 1941, was charged with leading the 17th Panzer Division . During the Kesselschlacht near Smolensk he suffered a serious wound and died a little later in the hospital.
