Karl Striebeck

Karl Striebeck (born July 8, 1904 in the area of ​​what would later become Wuppertal , † May 2, 1985 in Hamburg ) was a German actor and director .

Life

After finishing secondary school, Striebeck attended the drama school of the German Theater (Max Reinhardt School) in Berlin, where he made his debut as an actor at the Reinhardt Theaters in 1923 . In the same year he became a member of the GDBA . He then performed in Wuppertal, Kaiserslautern , Hanau , Neuss and Gladbach-Rheydt, among others . From 1935 to 1939 he was an actor and artistic director at the Stadttheater in Frankfurt an der Oder . He then worked at the State Theater in Schneidemühl until 1945 . From 1935 to 1945 he was a member of the directors' group of the Reichstheaterkammer . In 1946 he got an engagement at the Märkische Kammerspiele in Witten , where he worked until 1950. He gave guest productions, including at the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth . His most important roles as an actor up to this point included those of Hauptmann von Köpenick , Alter Knie ( Katharina Knie ), Gunderloch ( The Merry Vineyard ) and Loman ( Death of a Salesman ).

From 1955 Striebeck worked for two years at the Nordmärkisches Landestheater Schleswig. He then went to the Bremen Theater . He worked as an actor and director from 1961 to 1964 in Münster and then until 1971 at the Munich Residenztheater . Boy Gobert brought him to the Hamburg Thalia Theater in 1974 , where he performed until 1985, the year he died.

Striebeck also worked in the film industry, initially for the Danish production company Dansk Kulturfilm. In their documentary Thorvaldsen (1949) he acted as a speaker and in the feature film Der kom en dag (1955) he took on the role of Standartenführer Funcker. In the same year he was also seen in the German feature film Children, Mothers and a General . Since then he has appeared again and again in mostly smaller television roles throughout his life. In 1969 he played in Georg Tressler's Weh 'dem, who inherits alongside Inge Meysel and Stefan Wigger .

Striebeck was married to the actress Mathilde Zedler . His sons are Peter Striebeck and Jochen Striebeck .
