Karl Laundry

Karl Wäschle (* 24. December 1922 in Ravensburg , † 7. August 2014 ) was a Baden-Wuerttemberg local politician of the CDU . From 1966 to 1987 he was Lord Mayor of the City of Ravensburg.

Life

Karl Laundry was drafted into the Navy in 1940 . He was used as a submarine driver. After the war, he was a consultant in the Ministry of Culture for ten years.

In 1966 he was elected mayor of Ravensburg to succeed Albert Sauer . In 1973 he was elected chairman of the regional association Bodensee-Oberschwaben .

During Waschle's tenure, historical buildings were demolished through department store and multi-storey car parks in Ravensburger Adlerstrasse, as well as the renovation of the concert hall and the beginning of the renovation of Ravensburg's old town, the construction of a shopping center on Gänsbühl, the establishment of pedestrian zones and the closure of the central one Marienplatz for through traffic.

After his resignation as Lord Mayor, in 1987 he was granted honorary citizenship of the city of Ravensburg.

The Ravensburg district association of the Europa-Union Deutschland honored the achievements of its long-term chairman in 2005 with the appointment of honorary chairman and the Europa-Union Germany with the award of the Europa-Union pin in gold in recognition of services to the Europa-Union Germany.

The artist Raimund Waschle was his son.
