Karl Weinmann

Karl Weinmann (born December 22, 1873 in Vohenstrauss , † September 26, 1929 in Pielenhofen ) was a German Catholic theologian and musicologist. He was a student of the cathedral priest and church music school in Regensburg , became music prefect of the cathedral priest and later Magister choralis in the theological Konvikt in Innsbruck .

Life

Karl Weinmann was born in Vohenstrauß in the Upper Palatinate. He attended high schools in Amberg and Regensburg, where he was a singing boy in the cathedral choir . After graduating from high school, he began to study philosophy at the Lyceum in Regensburg, at the same time he was prefect in the cathedral church and attended church music school. From 1895 he continued his theological studies in Innsbruck. The rain of the local seminary gave him the task of a Magister choralis , his fellow students elected him as vocal and orchestra conductor. On June 4, 1899 Karl Weinmann received in Berlin the priesthood and was 1904 in Freiburg with the work The Hymnarium Parisiense to Dr. phil. PhD . After a short pastoral activity, he succeeded Michael Haller as the collegiate bandmaster at the collegiate church of the Old Chapel in Regensburg and was appointed cathedral vicar by Bishop Anton von Henle in 1908 . In 1909 he became head of the episcopal library, which he made accessible to the public, and in 1910 director of the church music school, where he taught music history and aesthetics. From 1926 Weinmann was General President of the General German Cäcilienverein . In 1928 he was made the Dome of Honor of Palestrina . Weinmann was editor of the church music yearbook , the Musica sacra and the collection of church music . After his death, Carl Thiel succeeded him as director of the church music school.
