Karl Wilhelm Julius Paul Koken ; * January 2, 1853 in Hanover ; † April 10, 1910 ibid) was a German painter.

Life

family

Paul was the son of the painter Edmund Koken and the father of Friedrich Hans Koken .

Born in the royal seat of the Kingdom of Hanover , Paul received painting lessons from his father Edmund in his early youth. A few years after the proclamation of the German Empire in 1876, Paul Koken first went to Munich to study with Adolf Heinrich Lier , then to the Weimer Art School , where he continued his studies under Theodor Hagen . In addition, Koken was formed through study trips through Germany and Italy .

In 1882 Paul Koken became a member of the Hanover Art Association .

In 2004 the Hanover Historical Museum presented an extensive retrospective of the Hanover family of painters Edmund, Paul and Gustav Koken .

On November 11, 2018, an episode of the NDR's Lieb & Teuer program was broadcast, which was filmed in Reinbek Castle and hosted by Janin Ullmann . A painting by Paul Koken was discussed with the painting expert Beate Rhenisch.
