Carl Wollek

Carl Wollek (also Karl Wollek , Karel Volek ; born October 31, 1862 in Brno , † September 3, 1936 in Vienna ) was an Austrian sculptor .

Life

Wollek completed a year at the Vienna School of Applied Arts at Otto King , then went to Munich to the Academy to Syrius Eberle . He worked on the decoration of the Berlin Reichstag building and then traveled to Italy , Belgium and France on a scholarship . He created four larger than life figures for the German House in Brno. As a result, he was very active in Vienna and Brno, creating fountain figures, grave monuments, portrait busts, etc. Stylistically, he began with the Wilhelminian style neo-baroque and, with the change in contemporary tastes, found simpler forms. In 1911 he received the Imperial Prize for his (no longer existing) large statue of Wieland the blacksmith in front of the Aviation Academy in Wiener Neustadt .

In 1953, in Vienna- Donaustadt (22nd district), the Wollekweg was named after him.
