Karl Freiherr von Horn (born December 15, 1818 in Speyer , † September 14, 1896 in Munich ) was a Bavarian general of the infantry .

Life

origin

Karl von Horn was the son of the Bavarian major general Wilhelm von Horn and his wife Marianne, née Hager (1796–1831).

Military career

Horn graduated from the Bavarian Cadet Corps and in 1838 became a second lieutenant in the artillery of the Bavarian Army . He took part in the war against Prussia in 1866 . As major general , he fought in the war against France in 1870/71 and was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross for his achievements and on September 19, 1870 with the Knight's Cross of the Military Max Joseph Order . After the end of the war, Horn was commander of the Metz occupation brigade and rose to commander of the 4th division in Würzburg with his promotion to lieutenant general on April 25, 1875 . On June 16, 1881 he was finally appointed commanding general of the 1st Army Corps . Since August 6, 1881, Horn was also adjutant general to King Ludwig II. In these positions, promoted to general of the infantry in 1883, Horn was put up for disposition in 1887 .

He had been the owner of the 2nd Field Artillery Regiment "Horn" since August 21, 1884 and was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Military Merit in recognition of his many years of service .

family

Horn married Magdalena Auernheimer on June 9, 1846 in Würzburg. She was the daughter of the wine merchant Johann Friedrich Auernheimer and his wife Eva, née Seibert. The marriage resulted in two sons and a daughter.
