Life

Karl Schiller was born just six days after September 8th, the day his father and his wife Charlotte nee. von Lengefeld had set foot on the soil of the Duchy of Württemberg for the first time after eleven years of exile . The seriously ill Duke of Württemberg Karl Eugen had previously publicly assured his father that he would not cause him any inconvenience. At the time of the birth, the parents stayed with Friedrich Schiller's childhood friend, Hoven's court medic. At the baptism on September 23rd, his godparents were u. a. the ruling Duchess of Weimar, Baron Wolfgang Heribert von Dalberg , the grandmother Louise von Lengefeld and von Hoven. After the early death of his father, Karl Schiller studied forest science at the universities in Heidelberg and Jena with the support of his publisher Johann Friedrich Cotta and then completed the practical part of the training in the Thuringian Forest . In 1814 he took part in the battles against the French as a royal Prussian officer. Then he finished his studies. In Weimar he was accepted into the Masonic Lodge "Anna Amalia zu den 3 Rosen". Since no position could be found in the Weimar region, Karl Schiller turned to the King of Württemberg, Wilhelm I , who let him know in April 1817 that he would be gladly ready, “the merits of a man of whom his country can be proud may honor in his son ”. So Karl Schiller came back to Württemberg and stayed here until the end of his life.

His first place of work was Reichenberg near Backnang . During this time he met Luise Locher, a daughter of the Gaildorf senior medical officer. In 1825 he married the 21-year-old there. His later workplaces were Altshausen and Rottweil . On May 8, 1839, he took part in the unveiling of the monument in Stuttgart in honor of his father. His 12-year-old son Friedrich Schiller pulled the pink cover off the bronze statue.

In the years 1841–1850, Karl Schiller worked as a royal forester (i.e. chief forester) in Lorch . In recognition of his services, King Wilhelm I made him a baron in 1845. His last professional station was Neuenstadt until 1852 . He spent the last five years of his life in retirement in Stuttgart. He was buried in the Fangelsbach cemetery.

Karl Schiller was a forester with all his soul. He was distinguished by a stately figure, as well as a cheerful mind and deep mind. In his manner and way of speaking he was simple, sincere and jovial.
