Karlheinz Nowald

Karlheinz Nowald (* 1940 ) is a German art historian .

Nowald received his doctorate in Heidelberg in 1971 with a work on the painting Malerstube im Mondschein (1826) by the painter Carl Gustav Carus . This was published in 1973 at the Kunsthalle in Kiel . Since 1979 he has been professor of art history and art history at the Berlin University of the Arts (today Berlin University of the Arts ) and for some time managing director of the institute for art history and aesthetics.

In the course of his career he published numerous books and contributions to exhibition catalogs. He also contributed to the television series 1000 Masterpieces : He contributed to paintings by Giuseppe Arcimboldo , Pieter Brueghel the Elder , Lucas Cranach the Elder , Albrecht Dürer , Anthonis van Dyck , Richard Estes , Hugo van der Goes , Anselm Kiefer , Yves Klein , Lorenzo Lotto , Reginald Marsh , Masaccio , master of the female half-length figures , Hans Memling , Adolph von Menzel , Louis Le Nain or Antoine Le Nain , Georgia O'Keeffe , Parmigianino , Raffael , Man Ray , Adrian Ludwig Richter , Peter Paul Rubens , Jacob Izaaksoon van Ruisdael , Karl Friedrich Schinkel , Carl Spitzweg , Joseph Stella , Leonardo da Vinci , Rogier van der Weyden . These texts were also printed in the books accompanying the series, are sporadically repeated on 3sat , ZDFkultur and Planet and are now available on DVD publications (see 1000 Masterworks # Literature ).

Nowald has worked several times with the Kunsthalle Kiel , the Lehmbruck Museum and Bert Gerresheim . In the Duden publishing house published materials for art classes.
