Karl-Heinz Stroux (born February 25, 1908 in Hamborn , today part of Duisburg ; † August 2, 1985 in Düsseldorf ) was a German actor , director and theater director .

Life

The son of a doctor studied history and philosophy in Berlin from 1927 to 1930 and also attended drama school at the Volksbühne Berlin , where he was assistant director and actor (1928 to 1930). Then Stroux was director at various Berlin theaters, 1934/1935 in Erfurt and 1936 to 1938 in Wuppertal , 1939 to 1944 guest director at the Burgtheater in Vienna . In 1945 he opened the Heidelberger Kammerspiele, which he co-founded . In 1946 he became senior director in Darmstadt and in 1948 in Wiesbaden . From 1949 to 1951 Stroux was senior director at the Hebbel Theater , then until 1955 at the Schiller and Schlossparktheater in Berlin and from 1955 to 1972 general manager of the Schauspielhaus in Düsseldorf . From 1972 he worked as a freelance director and again as an actor.

Stroux worked with Eugène Ionesco from 1959 and was particularly committed to the Eastern European theater.

Karl-Heinz Stroux was the father of Thomas Stroux and Stephan Stroux . Louisa Stroux is his granddaughter.

His grave is in the Düsseldorf North Cemetery .
