Karola Jovanović

Karola Jovanović ( Cyrillic  Карола Јовановић ; * 1879 , † January 1958 in Vienna , Austria ) was an opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

From 1904 to 1905 she was active as a singer in the Czech Republic , at the Olomouc City Theater . Until 1906 she worked as a singer at the Frankfurt Opera House and then until 1911 at the Graz Opera House . After 1911 she went to the Vienna Court Opera , where she had guest performances in 1909 and 1911, and stayed there until 1932. She occasionally played the role of the nymph Echo in the world premiere of the second version of the Richard Strauss opera Ariadne in October 1916 on Naxos .

Guest performances took her to the Munich Court Opera in 1906 and 1907, to the Berlin Court Opera in 1908 and 1911 and to the Salzburg Festival in 1922, 1926 and from 1929 to 1931 .

Other operatic roles were that of Marie in The Armory by Albert Lortzing , Marzelline in Ludwig van Beethoven's only opera Fidelio , Anna in The Merry Wives of Windsor by Otto Nicolai , Gretel in Hansel and Gretel and that of Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini .
