Life

Gallati was the son of Kaspar Gallati (also an officer abroad) and Verena Gugelberg.

Since 1562 he was in French service under four French kings, where he led his own Swiss regiment four times . He distinguished himself in 1569 at Jarnac and Montcontour, in 1589 at Arques. In 1587 he was ennobled as a knight of the Order of St. Michael , in 1603 he became lieutenant in the royal bodyguard of the Hundred Swiss , and from 1615 to 1619 he was the first colonel in the Swiss guards regiment.

In 1589 he supported King Henry IV in the campaigns against Spain, including in Flanders and Brabant, as part of the Guard of the Hundred Swiss and was thus responsible for the security of the outer areas of the king's location. The guard was used in the war in Savoy after the Treaty of Vervins .

Gallati commanded a regiment in the so-called Easter Egg War 1606. When the auxiliary corps arrived in France , the king was already at peace with his adversary, the Duke of Bouillon .

In 1610 he took part in the invasion of Jülich in 1610 in preparation for an attack on the Spanish Netherlands in support of the Reformed princes in the Holy Roman Empire . The king went to a meeting in a carriage, unaccompanied by his guards, and was stabbed to death by François Ravaillac in the Rue de la Ferronnerie , after which the campaign ended and the Swiss abdicated.

Kaspar Gallati died in Tours on July 2, 1619 and was buried in Paris .

His grandson was the French Colonel of the Guard Kaspar Freuler , builder of the Freuler Palace in Näfels .
