The Kastal is a 2776  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Lasörling group in East Tyrol . It is 1 hour walking time west of the Gritzer See . Neighboring mountains are the Hofspitze ( 2819  m above sea level ) in the north and the Gasser Horn ( 2612  m above sea level ) in the south. The Hohe Rast ( 2548  m above sea level ) connects the Gasser Horn with the Kastal. The Kastal offers a good view of the Glockner Group , Venediger Group , Panargenkamm and Rieserferner Group .

The ascent from the Speikbodenhütte above St. Veit takes about 3 hours of walking. Other possible starting points are the hamlets of Tögisch ( St. Jakob in Defereggen ) and Gasse (St. Veit) as well as the Lasörlinghütte in Virgental . A marked path of difficulty I (UIAA) leads from the Hohe Rast to the summit. The transition from the Hofspitze is more difficult with difficulty level II.
