Catalog of basic geospatial data

The catalog of basic geospatial data ( Geobasisdatenkatalog ) in Switzerland is a catalog-like listing of all geodata that has been collected by a legislative community ( federal , canton , municipality or other) by linking with underlying legal decrees to geospatial base data . In addition to the visualization of the geographic (basic) data recorded by geographic information law, its function is the database-specific allocation of responsible bodies and other legally relevant attributes (legal attributes ). The geospatial reference data catalog is usually published itself in a legal decree (mostly in the form of an appendix to an executive decree).

In Switzerland there have been geographic base data catalogs since July 1, 2008, initially at the level of the Swiss Confederation (catalog of geographic base data according to federal law). This currently contains 181 geospatial base data with information on their constitutive legal basis from the collection of Swiss law and the responsible bodies. For 77 geospatial reference data, responsibilities are delegated to the cantons (and / or communes).

Following this, further geographic reference data catalogs will be issued at the cantonal and later also at the communal level. These initially record the assigned geospatial base data of the higher-level community (for the cantonal catalog, the geospatial base data under federal law under the responsibility of the cantons, and in the municipal catalog, the geospatial base data under federal and cantonal law under the responsibility of the communes ) and are supplemented by further geospatial base data based on their own legislation. This creates a hierarchical interweaving of the individual catalog works.
