The Katharinenkirche in Barkhausen

The Katharinenkirche in the Bad Essen district of Barkhausen is a church of the parish Barkhausen-Rabber, which belongs to the parish of Bramsche of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover .

Building history and architecture

The church in Barkhausen was originally built as a chapel under the patronage of St. Martin , only later was St. Catherine added. The exact founding time is unknown. For the parish it was probably collected from 1350 to 1460.

The two square yokes of the nave of today's Katharinenkirche date from the first half of the 13th century . Around 1425, possibly earlier, the Gothic choir with a 3/8 end was added. In 1783 the ship was extended to the west by a yoke half the depth of the other two and the west tower was added. The yoke division on the buttress can be seen from the outside .

In the two older yokes there are groin vaults over wide, round arched belt arches . A pointed triumphal arch connects to the choir. The newer yoke is equipped with cross vaults . The choir and nave have pointed, two-part windows with tracery . According to an inscription, the entrance on the north side of the second yoke dates from 1729 and there is a round window above it.

Church furnishings

The oldest part of the church furnishings are the Gothic choir stalls , which probably come from the St. Mauritius Monastery in Minden . The carved altar in auricular style was built in 1671, which also attached organ 1721. The pulpit dates from the first half of the 17th century, the baptismal from the 18th century and a brass - chandeliers of the 1,772th
